YouTube Removes AI Generated Bollywood Videos Amid Aishwarya Rai-Abhishek Bachchan Legal Battle

In a significant development, YouTube has taken down hundreds of AI-generated videos featuring Bollywood actors amid a lawsuit filed by celebrity couple Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan over similar content. The action followed a report revealing that the Google-owned platform hosted multiple channels and videos mirroring the ones the Bachchans contested.

YouTube Removes AI Generated Bollywood Videos

These videos reportedly accumulated 16.5 million views before being removed. The Bachchans had requested a ban on creating AI videos that infringe upon their intellectual property rights and called for a review of YouTube’s AI training policies. Despite a court order last month to eliminate several YouTube links, similar videos with questionable AI manipulations remained accessible, Reuters reported.

The Bachchans have voiced concerns about YouTube’s content and third-party training policies, arguing that these policies permit users to share their videos for training rival AI models, thereby increasing the potential for misleading online content. Their legal filings state, “Using such content to train AI models could amplify the proliferation of infringing material.”

YouTube Confirms Removal Of AI Generated Bollywood Love Stories

YouTube confirmed the removal of a channel titled “AI-generated Bollywood love stories,” which featured 259 videos totaling 16.5 million views. The platform also indicated that another account, “AI Bollywood Ishq,” is no longer active. While YouTube maintains that it removes manipulated and misleading content, the continued appearance of AI-generated videos depicting intimate scenarios with celebrity likenesses has prompted the Bachchans to seek $450,000 in damages from Google and associated parties.

India’s YouTube user base is approximately 600 million, with a significant portion of content centered around Bollywood entertainment. The Bachchans’ legal action includes hundreds of links and screenshots of videos they describe as “egregious,” “sexually explicit,” or “fictitious” AI content. Recently, filmmaker Karan Johar and actor Nagarjuna have also approached the courts to protect their personality rights.
