Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara 2 Is Happening! Zoya Akhtar Give Major Sequel Update; Promises, “It Will Be Nice”

Released in 2011, Zoya Akhtar’s Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara became an instant hit thanks to its fresh story, chartbuster songs and cinematography that transported the audience to Europe. Ever since then, fans have been eagerly awaiting a sequel. In fact, when ‘Arjun’ Hrithik Rosahn, ‘Kabir’ Abhay Deol and ‘Imran’ Farhan Akhtar reunited for a Yas Island ad in 2025, audience were excited and hoped it was related to a sequel announcement.

Now, a month after the film celebrated its 15the anniversary, Zoya has finally confirmed ZNMD 2 is happening. Scroll below to read all she said.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara 2 Is Happening!

During an interaction with The Hollywood Reporter at the Monsoon Film Festival, Zoya Akhtar confirmed that the a Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara sequel is being worked on. The filmmaker shared, “We are on it.”

Stated that the project will only move ahead if the story feels right for the characters, Zoya continued, “We don’t know what will happen and what won’t… if we will get to a place where it feels correct, in catching up with these characters today. But it will be nice.”

That is the filmmaker’s clearest update on the much-awaited sequel. For those who do not know, earlier this year, when quizzed about Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara 2, she said, “When it happens, I’ll announce it.” In 2025, when Farhan Akhtar was quizzed about a sequel, he said, “People have been asking me questions about ZNMD 2 since 2011. This question has never left me.” He added, “If I had to repeat any film experience, in a heartbeat I would choose Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. I hope Zoya does ZNMD 2.”

Zoya: I Got Abused In My DMs

During the same interaction, Zoya Akhtar also got candid about the backlash she received when Farhan Akhtar, Hrithik Roshan and Abhay Deol reunited for a Yas Island ad in 2025 and not a ZNMD sequel. Stating that many fans initially believed the clip was actually a promotional video for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara 2, Zoya noted that they were immensely disappointed when they realised it was just an advertisement.

The filmmaker noted that dejected fans slid into her DMs and slammed her as it was not a trailer for the sequel. She said, “People thought it was a trailer. First, they were like, ‘YEAH!’ But then I got abused in my DMs saying, ‘This was not funny.’”

It emerged as the 5th highest-grossing Hindi film of 2011. That year, the film took home several awards too.
