Box Office Report: Check out the first day collection of Diljit Dosanjh’s ‘Soorma’

Shaad Ali’s directorial based on the life of Indian Hockey player Sandeep Singh hit the silver screens on July 13. Titled ‘Soorma‘, the film revolves around the comeback of Singh, who was paralyzed due to an accidental gun-shot. While the performances of Diljit Dosanjh, Taapsee Pannu, and Angad Bedi are spectacular, the film opened with fewer numbers at the box office.

But then, this is the fate of content-driven films in Bollywood. Nevertheless, coming back to the first day numbers of ‘Soorma’, it has raked in Rs 3.25 crores at the box office. As per trade analyst, Taran Adarsh, the sports drama had a slow start in the morning, but, gained momentum by the evening.

Taking to his Twitter handle, Adarsh wrote, “After a slow start in morning shows [North India opening was good due to Diljit Dosanjh’s stardom], #Soorma gathered momentum from evening onwards… Is looking at substantial growth on Sat and Sun thanks to strong word of mouth… Fri ₹ 3.25 cr. India biz.”

The film’s business may have been affected a little bit as it released alongside Hollywood flick ‘Ant Man And The Wasp’ and Ranbir Kapoor‘s ‘Sanju’, which released three weeks back, is still doing exceptionally well. And with Dharma Production’s romantic drama ‘Dhadak’ releasing this Friday, the collection’s of ‘Soorma’ will take a further dip.

Singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh has been receiving great response from both critics as well as the audience for his portrayal of Sandeep Singh in his biopic. In one of his earlier interviews, while talking about his preparation for this film, Diljit had shared, “It took me about 15 days just to get the body language and the way he walks etc right. After that, we started working on the hockey technique. In sports films, I think it is important to get these things right, but it is also a combination of the emotional quotient in the film. We have to find a way to balance both.”

Also starring Angad Bedi and Taapsee Pannu in significant roles, ‘Soorma’ released on July 13 and received mixed reviews from the critics.
