Ninad Kamat, Dara Sandhu Defend Film’s Dr*g Angle

Addressing whether depicting dr*g use in Indian films invites criticism or risks being misunderstood, Priya Banerjee offered a clear perspective. She said, “I mean, there have been movies like Udta Punjab and all that has been made. You know, this is not the first time. I have seen so many Bollywood movies where the character that’s playing a star or a crazy person. I have seen it all in Bollywood movies.”

Providing perspective, Priya added, “So, I don’t think Akkhil (Kapur) has attempted anything that’s not already been shown. I think all of it, really, it’s just you see it more because the attention goes there. After all, the movie is about that, right? It’s about one crazy night. But then there are movies like Udta Punjab and so many. I can name plenty, Cocktail, Deepika. I mean, it’s been pretty openly shown, the dr*g usage and all of that. It’s not something hidden. At the end of the day, it’s a movie, right? Entertainment factor hai ismein. It’s nothing to be censored… it’s a film, right? So, I don’t think he was worried because I had this discussion, that this dr*g usage is not new in Indian movies.”

Ninad Kamat On Playing A Dr*g Addict In The Film

Meanwhile, Ninad Kamat spoke about approaching his character, Bobby, an ageing party-goer deeply entangled in substance use. He admitted, “See, my character is the one who is doing maximum dr*gs in the film. Mujhe zero matlab no knowledge at all. Main Akkhil ko poochta rehta tha ki bhaiya iske kya repercussions hain. Aur is particular nashe ka kya hota hai.”

Ninad revealed why he chose to take this role in the first place. He said, “Having said that, main aapko abhi bol raha hoon, on camera bol raha hoon, I would have refused this role agar yeh character dr*gs karke jeetta ya phir, jaise bolte hain na, ek tareeke se logon ko influence karta. Bachchon ko ya kisi ko bhi ki bhaiya yeh karne se aap yeh haasil kar sakte ho, ya life mein jeet jaoge. Aisa nahi hai. Matlab, uska end bhi kya hota hai, woh akela hi reh jaata hai. End mein bhi woh akela hi hai. Jo woh dhoondhne ki koshish kar raha hai, woh usko nahi mil paata. Toh maine isko entertainment tareeke se dekha. Just for the sake of entertainment and the character’s journey, I had to do this. So I said okay.”

Priya Banerjee Reveals NOT Knowing How To Roll A Cigarette

Priya Banerjee, who plays the enigmatic and ‘wacky’ Pizza Ggirl, also revealed an interesting behind-the-scenes detail. Despite her character frequently being seen consuming substances, she had no real-life reference for it. “Even my character, you see what happens to my character. Also the funny thing, I was constantly making cigarettes, and whatever… I don’t even actually know how to do it, I don’t know. I made it look so organic.”

The candid admission sparked laughter during the conversation, with Ninad adding, “Bohot kaam kiya hum sab ne.”

She went on to explain how much of it relied on performance rather than authenticity. “Woh actually koi aur karke de raha tha. Somebody else was doing it for me and… I was just pretending, you know. Yes. I was just because I can look cool doing this. But at the end of my character… Also, you see, notice how everybody is wacky but their end is quite disturbing. So, I feel that’s what he is. It’s actually absolutely right that the message is very clear that if you are following this path, your end is going to be similar to theirs. You don’t want that, kids.”
