EXCLUSIVE: Abhishek Banerjee Defends Violence, Dialogues In Mirzapur: The Movie; States, “The Vicious Characters We’re Showing Are Gangsters”

Mirzapur: The Movie is set to bring the gritty, violent world of the popular crime drama to the big screen, with fans eagerly awaiting its return of intense rivalries, gangster drama and sharp dialogues. However, questions have emerged over whether the film will retain the language and violence that have become synonymous with the franchise. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, Abhishek Banerjee, who plays Compounder, addressed whether the film has toned down these elements. He explained that while certain restrictions had to be followed, the makers have retained the essence of the Mirzapur universe, including its distinctive slangs. When asked whether the dialogues and violence of the Mirzapur series will be compromised in The Movie, Abhishek Banerjee said, “See, I mean, jise kehte hain ki violence ya language jo baat hum kar rahe hain, woh toh Mirzapur ka ek USP raha hai. Theek hai? We are showing a vicious place where these vicious characters are involved with gangster activities. So what do you expect gangsters to know? What language do you expect them to speak? True. Aur what do you expect them to do?”

He continued, “So I think it’s very self-explanatory ki hamara world kya hai. Ya toh us world mein jo ho raha hai, wahi dikha rahe hain. Aur jo hamari administrative policies hain, jo desh ki hain, woh alag ho sakta hai. They might want certain restrictions, so we are abiding by that. I think, you know, we have anywhere kept it controlled. But ek cheez bahut kamaal hai Hindustan ki ki sometimes slangs work better than gaalis. So I think we have used those many slangs in the film.”

Speaking of sharing some slangs used in the film, Banerjee said, “No, that I can’t. I’ll have to buy tickets for that. What’s the whole reason of making Mirzapur: The Movie?”

Mirzapur: The Movie is a 2026 action-crime thriller film directed by Gurmmeet Singh that expands on the hit Amazon Prime Video web series Mirzapur.
