Ameesha Patel Clarifies Remark On Zakir Khan's 'Bollywood is Jealous after Dhurandhar's success' Comment

Ameesha Patel addressed the controversy surrounding Zakir Khan’s remark, claiming Bollywood was “jealous” after Dhurandhar’s success. She questioned the basis of such claims, emphasising that success should inspire learning, not insecurity. Patel also highlighted how the film has raised industry standards, urging artists to embrace healthy competition rather than mislabel it as jealousy or negativity within Bollywood. Ameesha Patel Clarifies Remark On Zakir Khan’s ‘Bollywood is Jealous after Dhurandhar’s success’ Comment

When asked about her comment on Zakir Khan’s ‘Bollywood is Jealous after Dhurandhar’s success’, Ameesha Patel clarified, “Nahi, narazgi mere se personally nahi hai. Main usko personally jaanti hoon. Lekin main ek cheez zaroor kahungi — all these comedians, dekho, khade reh ke achievers ke baare mein baat karna, and to make them the brunt of all jokes, bahut aasan hai. Arre, achiever ban ke toh dikhao, superstar ban ke toh dikhao. Phir jab aap pe joke lagegi, I want to see how they take it. Bolna bahut aasan hai.”

She continued, “I don’t think it’s correct to strip someone down and make a joke on them. There are so many things you can joke about, why about achievers? Like I said, in logon ko achieve karke toh dikhane do, ek mukaam haasil karke dikhane do. Toh mera yahi tha — kya aapne statement aisa kaha ki industry jal rahi hai, insecure ho rahi hai? Aapko phone karke bataya? Did someone call you and say, ‘Hai Ram, Dhurandhar hit hogayi, main toh bahut insecure ho gaya?’ Aapko kaise pata? Ulta Dhurandhar ke aane ki wajah se itne saare logon ne bola ki we need to learn.”

Ameesha On People Praising Dhurandhar

The actress added, “People like Ram Gopal Varma ho ya so many others have said it set a benchmark. Logon ne stories aur Instagram posts kiye praising the film. Actors are reworking their films because they feel ek standard hai abhi, we need to match up. The audience is expecting better. Toh isme competition bad hai? Main samajh nahi pa rahi hoon — agar hum competition ko face nahi karenge, how will we improve? How will we give this audience better and better content, better viewing pleasure, better cinema? We don’t want to get complacent, aur humein complacent nahi banna hai.”

Continued, she said, “Toh, we need someone to come and keep on pulling up our socks, right? So how does it make us insecure? It makes us learn. He should have said we are learning from it. Main jaanna chahti hoon ki woh kaun 10 log hain jo inko phone karke bole ki we are insecure, jis basis par unhone yeh statement diya. Khatam baat.”

Ameesha Reveals If She Watches Stand-Up Comedy

When asked if she consumes stand-up comedy content, she said, “No, I don’t watch a lot of stand-up of our Indian comedians, to be honest. Because I feel they rip people down for no rhyme or reason. And any profession that is based on making your money or your popularity by putting others down is something I don’t believe in. Kyunki maine apne career mein khud colleagues, co-stars, aur so-called rivals ko kabhi neecha nahi kiya hai.”

She added, “In fact, maine unke achhe kaam ko hamesha appreciate kiya hai — knowing they are probably my competition, and maybe they have also spoken badly about me. Lekin maine kabhi unke baare mein kuch nahi bola. Yeh mera opinion hai, yeh meri policy hai. I don’t expect everyone to agree with it, but main is cheez mein believe nahi karti.”

Concluding, the actress said, “You can have stand-up comedy — there is so much in the world to talk about. Make fun of yourself, mock yourself, that’s okay. Don’t mock others. I don’t think it’s in good light, especially when you are pulling down public figures who have achieved. Jaise maine kaha — aap zara achieve karke dikhao. Phir main dekhna chahti hoon ki agar aapko mock kiya jaaye, and you become the butt of some other stand-up comedian, how would you feel?”

About Zakir Khan Controversy

Stand-up comedian Zakir Khan faced significant online backlash after making remarks about the film “Dhurandhar,” sparking a heated social media debate. While hosting an award show, Zakir implied that despite the social media support, the industry was secretly jealous of the film’s success, which many interpreted as a critique of Bollywood’s “fake love” for hit movies.

His comments divided viewers—some saw it as a harmless joke, while others viewed it as an unfair attack on the industry. The incident fueled discussions on social media about whether Zakir’s remarks were merely light-hearted humour or a calculated critique, with supporters claiming he was revealing the truth and critics calling it unnecessary provocation.
