Chitrangda Singh calls out the overwhelming rise of fake news, fake PR, bot-driven comments, and manufactured online engagement. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, she reflects on how this culture of fakery has created a disconnect from reality, pushing people into curated digital bubbles that feel increasingly distant from the truth. Chitrangda opens up about her own artistic journey, emphasising the importance of experimentation for an actor’s longevity. Scroll down to read what she said and watch the full interview.
Chitrangda Singh Wants To Change Fake PR, News, Comments
When asked if she had the power to change a media perspective, what would it be, Chitrangda Singh said, “I think fake news, if I could change that, that’s the one. Fake news, fake PR, fake comments, fake followers, bots — fake comments. All of this has created such a huge disconnect between everyone and what the real thing is. It’s unbelievable. Sometimes, even the comments on a social media post are fake; it is ridiculous. Sometimes, I saw a post on social media, one of those Instant Bollywood kinds of pages.”
She added, “And suddenly, within like 4–5 minutes of getting posted, it had 200 comments. And I said, ‘Yeh kaise ho sakta hai?’ They all sound the same! So I don’t know how far we are going to go with this fake image. And everybody knows it’s fake, but it’s still there. Matlab yeh kuch, I think it’s really affecting society. I think it’s affecting everyone. Mujhko lagta hai ki hum reality se bahut door ja rahe hain. We’re just living in bubbles, which is sad.”
Chitrangda On The Kind Of Roles She Wants To Do
Speaking of what kinds of roles she is looking forward to playing, Chitrangda said, “Mujhe bhi lagta hai ki agar aap khud experiment nahi karoge, toh aapki as an actor shelf life limited ho jaati hai. Jab logon ko lagne lagta hai ki yeh hi range aap manage kar sakte ho, toh that’s it. But you have to strive to get something different, you have to look for something different. If you want to play safe all the time, toh aapki shelf life bhi kahi na kahi limited ho jaati hai. Lekin jab koi aapko itne variant, itne variation mein dekhta hai, toh there is a certain, how do you say screen age?”
The actress concluded, “Woh kahi na kahi kam ho jaati hai — matlab log aapse bore nahi hote. If I have seen somebody do the same bubbly, giggly girl role for the last five, six, seven years, I am bored of seeing you giggle all the time. I want to see something else, you know? Thoda sa kuch alag dekhna hota hai. So I think it’s very important to take that chance as an actor. Push for that, look for it, try, and convince somebody. Hope that some director will see you in a different way, some writer will imagine you in a different role. That variety is very important, I think.”
