Chunky Panday on attending funeral for money

Recalling the instance, he shared, “That was my mistake. Yes, I attended the funeral, but not out of choice. See, in those days, there was no source of income for actors besides going to events or doing movies. There was no YouTube, Instagram, or even ads at that time, as it was a different era. So one day, an event organiser called me and told me that there was an event I needed to attend for 10 minutes, and I was instructed to arrive in white attire. I thought it was the theme of the event. I reached there, and it was crowded. When I got out of the car, the people present were surprised to see me.”

He added, “I suddenly saw a dead body in front of me and thought the organiser had passed away. Then the organiser came and told me he had called me for the funeral. I could not even react or shout at him, as it was a serious situation. He then told me, ‘Agar aap royenge na, toh thoda zyada paisa milega.” (If you cry, you will be paid more.)’ And I am not a very emotional person, so I avoided that, as I didn’t want to start laughing. But another actor attended the funeral and cried a lot, as he was paid ₹50,000 more.”
