Independence Day EXCLUSIVE: Vasudha Actress Priya Thakur Shares Her Childhood Memory; Recalls School Dance Saying, “Prep Used To Start 15 Days Before”

Getting appreciation for her performance in Vasudha, Priya Thakur has shared her memories of her childhood days of Independence Day and what patriotism means to her. The actress still recalls the excitement of performing at her school function and participating in competitions, even as her Independence Day celebrations have evolved over the years. But for Priya, patriotism is more than songs, films and social media posts. For her, however, it’s about being a good citizen and making the country a better place.

Priya Thakur Recalls Childhood Celebrations This Independence Day

During an exclsuive interaction, Priya Thakur remembered her childhood days, when she used to wait for Independence Day because of the special celebrations in her school. Dancing was a big part of those memories, especially because students used to compete against each other. She recalled, “When I look back at my childhood, the strongest memory I have is waiting for Independence Day because our school used to have an Independence Day function where I used to dance. There was a particular song called ‘Adesh Rangeela Rangeela’, and I used to dance to it. There were a lot of competitions between one house and another house, and the preparations for winning would start 15 days before the competition.”

Priya added that she would keep waiting for the day of the competition and her turn to perform. The celebrations also included distributing laddoos across the school. She said, “I used to wait and see when the competition would take place and when my performance would come. This used to happen during my childhood. We also used to distribute laddoos throughout the school. It was very special. But if we look at it today, things are not like that anymore. Today, we work on Independence Day too because the shoot is going on. The show must go on. But yes, I remember a lot of my childhood days.”

Priya: If You Improve Yourself, The Country Will Improve

For Priya Thakur, genuine patriotism is not limited to expressing love for the country through films or social media posts. She believes it begins with individual responsibility. She said, “Patriotism is often expressed through films or social media posts, but I don’t think that alone is true patriotism. For me, genuine patriotism means taking responsibility for our country and showing that we care for it. We can show that by loving each other, respecting each other, teaching good morals to our society, following rules and not breaking the rules of our country.”

She further explained that even one person’s actions can inspire others. She shared, “Things can be smooth if we set an example that this is what a true patriot looks like. If one person is like this, then two more people can become like this, and then three or four. The change is within you. If we look at real patriotism, it is about improving yourself. If you improve yourself, then the country will improve.”

Priya: We Have To Become Responsible Citizens

Priya also believes that loving one’s country does not mean agreeing with everything. According to her, responsible citizens should be able to question things that are wrong while working towards a better society. She said, “If someone loves their country, it doesn’t mean that they will agree with everything. Sometimes our views don’t match. We have to think a lot about how to make our society and our country better. We have to raise our voice when something is wrong.”

Priya concluded, “If we love our country and care for it, then we have to become responsible citizens. If we are responsible citizens, we can question what’s wrong and tell what is right. This is everyone’s right. I think that if you love your country, you will stand up for what is right and raise your voice against what is wrong. For me, patriotism is to care, love and take responsibility for the betterment of our country.”
