Jasmine Bhasin on struggling to pay rent

Sharing her thoughts on importance of money, she says, “Honestly, it is one of the most important parts .Pata hai, hum saari zindagi yahi sochte hain—achha ab hum yeh padh lete hain, ab hum yeh wali degree kar lete hain, ab hum yeh wala profession choose karte hain. We think we’ll make this much money, we’ll achieve this or that, and eventually, hum sabki zindagi mein bottom line paisa ho gaya hai iss tareeke se ki we even start ignoring our health. (Honestly, this is one of the most important aspects of life. You know, we spend our whole lives thinking—let’s finish this course, get this degree, choose this profession. We think we’ll earn this much money, achieve this or that. And eventually, money becomes the bottom line for all of us in such a way that we even start neglecting our health).”

Jasmine recalls how her father was ill

She recalled, “I always knew money was very important for me. I wanted to earn since my college days as i had seen my family struggling. My father was once really unwell and during that time I truly understood what money means, how it can literally save a life. Aur jab mujhe opportunity mili, mujhe laga bas, theek hai—God has shown me a path. Now I will work hard.”

She added, “Bombay was very difficult for me. Ek time aisa bhi tha jab samajh nahi aata tha rent kaise jayega, how would I even eat—frozen paratha, Maggi, whatever was available. When you are struggling that time, you don’t feel bad about anything. You don’t feel like life is unfair or anything—it’s all a part of the journey, it’s the process. So it’s not like I was unhappy or anything, I was actually enjoying the process. When I was about to leave for college, my dad once told me, “Time teaches everything, just don’t give up.” That has always echoed in my ears. So I knew—okay, maybe things aren’t great right now, but they’ll get better eventually. So just don’t give up and keep going on as long as you’re breathing.”

She concluded, “And that’s how my journey has been—more or less, I’ve never shown my vulnerability publicly. Whatever I had, I chose to live with dignity. If we keep looking at what others have and think “I want this too, and that too,” it doesn’t work like that. You have to make the most of the resources you have. And eventually, when you know how to work hard and have faith in God, everything falls into place.”
