Poonam Pandey made her acting debut with Nasha in 2013. However, the film faced controversy due to its explicit content. The posters were torn, burned, and multiplexes also removed the film. Poonam Pandey, in an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, elaborated on how she never got work for 4 years after Nasha. She also mentioned how big production houses did not sign her.
Poonam Pandey On NOT Getting Work After Nasha
When asked for the first time when she wanted to become a brand image, Poonam Pandey said, “For 15 years, I have been dealing with this amazing persona. All done by me. I’m not sitting here and regretting it. When I came to this industry, I still remember everything clearly. After Nasha is what I am talking about, ek toh pehele hi outsider mar maara ke, itna band bajwake aana padhta haina yaahan pe. It’s very difficult to crack one job. And you cracked this one film, and you feel like you have finally done your acting course. People will love my work, and I might get more jobs. Dude, woh chodo joh aaraha tha woh bhi rukk gaya.”
She added, “I was like, yeh kya hua? There was a span of 4 good years when I didn’t have any work. And for me either it was either a do or die situation. Either you can be Poonam Pandey, do something or work in a call centre, boss. Get out of this industry, because this industry only works because of a lot of connections. It’s a known thing. Everyone has their own ways of dealing with it. I was like, thik hai, let’s wait and see. But nahi aaya koi bhi kaam, and I decided to be sexy. It worked, I’m paying my electricity bill with that money.”
Poonam Pandey On Nasha Controversy
Talking about the Nasha controversy, Poonam said, “Critically speaking, people talked about it a lot.” Speaking of the posters being burnt and X-rated content, the influencer said, “This film, even today, the entire family can sit and watch. There’s nothing in that film. Like there’s nothing, ek bhi scene nahi hai. And iss film ke pehele bhi kaafi strong films aaye hai, jiske posters nahi jale hai. And me being the most positive naari on earth, anything that goes wrong with you, I used to say, movie ko publicity milegi, stay positive. I am just being positive. But now, at 34, when I look back and I’m like kya kiya? Kiu kiya? Kuch nahi tha uss film mein. All of a sudden, when the multiplexes remove the film, yaar, that all happened with Nasha. It was a weird thing that happened with the film.”
Poonam On Her Brand Image
Poonam said a lot of big production houses offered work, but later didn’t respond. She said, “I will not name it, and the funniest, frustrating part of this most recent incident. It was yesterday. It felt pathetic. You have locked the whole deal, aur koi bhi artist ko bura toh lagega naa. 15 years of being here, Poonam Pandey is a brand, and I love it. I was here to act, only acting, but maine acting ke ilawa sab kiya hai.” Talking about her entry to the industry, Poonam said she was 21 when she did Nasha. She said, “I came from Thane. No clue of people, I had 0 idea.”
About Nasha Controversy
The film Nasha, featuring Poonam Pandey and Shivam Patil, ignited controversy due to its provocative posters and alleged explicit content. The film’s promotional images, which showcased Poonam Pandey in backless and bikini attire, were considered highly provocative. These posters faced strong protests from groups like the Shiv Sena, leading to some being torn down and burned in parts of Mumbai and Delhi. The movie’s storyline, which revolves around a relationship between an 18-year-old boy and a 25-year-old woman, drew criticism for its s*xual themes and n*dity. Critics largely panned the film. Known for her controversial image, Pandey remained unbothered by the backlash, suggesting that the controversy was benefiting the film by generating curiosity among viewers.
