Rubina Dilaik Opens Up On Her Postpartum Journey

Looking back at her pregnancy phase, Rubina Dilaik opened up about her postpartum experience. Speaking about the difficulties she faced, she said, “Absolutely, the postpartum is real. The hormones itself, they are changing the way you feel and think, which most of us are unaware of. Only a person who goes through it knows about the changes happening inside the body. Till February, I was extremely down, and I was struggling with my own self-identity. November, December, January, and February were the hardest-hitting months of my postpartum phase. Even depression would be less in front of the postpartum.”

Rubina continued, “I’ve gone through depression earlier, and now I’ve gone through postpartum. Postpartum is a real thing. It’s nothing ‘wokism’ ki ab kuch karne ko nahi hai toh isliye you’ll throw around postpartum like ‘Oh I’m not feeling myself, it’s postpartum.’ I’m sorry. It is actually there. And if you dismiss a woman saying yeh normally kuch nahi hota, yeh toh aapke dimag mein hai. Sorry, my friend, you’re not a part of that journey then. I know it because I’ve just come out of it. I understand what life looks like when you’re deep down in the darkest phase of your life. You don’t like it. You don’t even like yourself.”

Rubina Dilaik Says Women Are Often Labelled ‘Pagal’ Due To Lack Of Care And Support

Further talking about postpartum, she added, “You don’t want to step out and socialise. The hormones are at the lowest level. How do you take care of yourself when, from within, you just don’t want to wake up in the morning? That’s what postpartum is. And we’re not educated in this sphere. How should we handle it, because we’re not ever made aware of this situation? Kisi ne nahi bola tha postpartum kya hota hai. Yeh toh humne suna. We’ve heard ‘Arey yeh toh aise hi depression mein rehti hai, kisi se baat waat nahi karti hai. Ya kuch zyada hi overreact kar deti hai. Maa banne ke baad toh pagal si hogayi hai.'”

Emphasising, she said, “Woh pagal nahi huyi hai. That’s nature’s way of resetting her system. And, if you don’t get enough support in that resetting phase, you will be labelled as ‘pagal’. You’ll be labelled as ‘oh, she’s become too much.’ You’ll be labelled as ‘Yeh toh humesha hi udaas rehti hai, yeh humesha roti rehti hai.’ Par woh aisa hota kyu hai uske saath? That’s what postpartum is. And if you can’t understand, it is difficult for you to understand. And if the others dismiss you, it becomes even more difficult to navigate that path for yourself.”
