Talking about how Daayra came her way, Trupti revealed that it was actually a mix of both. She credited Taran Bajaj for reaching out to her and asking her to test for the role. She also recalled how her earlier work in Crew eventually helped her get noticed by Meghna. Trupti said, “I really, really hope that this also happens soon, that a director like Meghna Gulzar approaches me and says, ‘I want to do a film with you and I want you to play this character.’ But this was kind of half-and-half. Taran Bajaj, whom I’m very, very grateful to, called me and said, ‘I would like you to test for this.’ He told me that Meghna Gulzar wanted me to test for the role.”

Trupti: I’m Very Happy That I Cracked The Audition

The actress then spoke about an important connection that helped her reach the audition. She explained that her work in Crew had played a part in Meghna noticing her. Trupti said, “Another great thing that happened to me a couple of years ago was Crew. Thanks to Rajesh Krishnan, who actually saw me as a cop and took me out of a sari and put me in a pant-shirt. Meghna ji saw it and asked for an audition.”

Trupti admitted that, like any audition, there was some uncertainty about whether she would get the part. However, she remained confident about her performance and was thrilled when she eventually got through. She added, “So yes, we did do an audition. There was that feeling of, ‘Will I get it, will I not get it?’ But I was very confident, and I’m very happy that I cracked the audition and got through.”

Daayra marks another interesting addition to Trupti’s growing body of work. With Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithvi Sukumaran leading the cast and Meghna Gulzar directing, the film is among the projects to watch out for.
