Today, the entire nation is mourning the tragic demise of the legendary singer, Lata Mangeshkar. She was one of the prolific singers of India who was crowned as the Nightingale of India and Queen of Melody. Lata Ji is a holder of several awards and honours, including the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, Padma Bhushan (1969), Padma Vibhushan (1999), Zee Cine Award for Lifetime Achievements (1999), Dadasaheb Phalke Award (1989), Maharashtra Bhushan Award (1997), NTR National Award (1999), Bharat Ratna (2001) and many more. 

As the country is mourning her death and sharing condolence messages on social media, we have compiled some of her throwback pictures that are priceless. In 1974, The Guinness Book of Records listed Lata Mangeshkar as the most recorded artist in history, stating that she had reportedly recorded not less than 25,000 solo, duet and chorus backed songs in 20 Indian languages between 1948 and 1974. The later editions of the Guinness Book stated that Lata Mangeshkar had sung no fewer than 30,000 songs between 1948 and 1987.

She had shared a priceless picture with late Meena Kumari from a recording studio on social media. During her birth anniversary, Ms Mangeshkar penned, “Aaj bahut mashhoor aur meri pasandida abhinetri Meena Kumari ki jayanti hai. Unke aur mere bahut acche sambandh the. Wo kai baar mere recording mein aati thi, main unke ghar jaaya karti thi. Unke pati mujhe beti kehete the. Unki yaad ko main vinamra abhivadan karti hun.”
