The highly awaited movie of the year, ‘Tubelight‘ finally hit the screens today, but unfortunately the movie didn’t earn the desired result at the box office. According to BOI, the morning shows had around 35-40% occupancy in India. The opening was better in the Northern belt. The occupancy is the third highest of 2017 after ‘Baahubali 2 – The Conclusion’ and ‘Raees’. Since ‘Raees’ clashed with ‘Kaabil’, the movie had a higher occupancy than ‘Tubelight’ which had the widest release with 4400 screens.

According to a trade insider, ‘Tubelight’ is turning out to be an underperformer. “Early estimates of the film’s collection on day 1 are between Rs 20-21 crore, which is too small an opening for a Salman Khan film, that too a solo Eid release. It is shocking to say the least,” informs a source.

Clearly, the opening is affected by pre-Eid and also the fact that Salman Khan is not playing the quintessential hero figure in this movie. So, the opening in smaller towns is lesser than the other Salman Khan pre-Eid releases like ‘Kick’ and ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’. The major multiplexes in North have opened with around 50% occupancy and at other big multiplexes are also decent. Well, the expectations were much higher considering it’s a Salman Khan film released during the festive period, but the movie’s early estimates are not as high as one would have expected them to be.
