Mahesh Babu is one of the most loved stars down South. The actor has been making headlines lately for a controversial reason. For the uninitiated, during an interaction with the media at the trailer launch of Major, Mahesh said that he would not work in Bollywood films as the industry cannot afford him.

The actor also added that he don’t want to waste his time. The Sarkaru Vaari Paata actor’s statement didn’t go down well with many who slammed him for it. Now, in a recent press conference, Mahesh Babu was asked about the negative reaction to his comments.

In his defence, Mahesh Babu said, “As I’ve always said, I want to make Telugu films and hope they do well across the country,” as translated by Twitter user @BheeshmaTalks.

Deccan Chronicle also quoted the actor addressing his recent comments against Bollywood. The portal quoted him saying, “I mentioned that I would not leave Telugu cinema for Hindi. I have always maintained that Telugu films should reach the pan-India. For more than 10 years I have been saying this and it is finally happening.

Coming back to Mahesh’s ‘Bollywood cannot afford me’ comment, Mahesh had said, “I did get a lot of offers in Hindi, but I don’t think they can afford me. I don’t want to waste my time working in an industry which can’t afford me. The stardom and the respect I get here [in South] is huge, so I never really thought of leaving my industry and going to some other industry. I have always thought of doing films and becoming bigger. My dream is coming true now and I can’t be happier.

Meanwhile, Mahesh is currently gearing up for the release of Major, produced by him. The film stars Adivi Shesh and Saiee Manjrekar in pivotal roles.

On the other hand, Mahesh has interesting projects in his pipeline. The actor will be seen in Sarkaru Vaari Paata, directed by Paramsula Petla. It stars Keerthy Suresh in the female lead.
