lil wayne, vows to never perform at nfl championship,

Following his disappointment at not being selected for the 2025 Super Bowl, Lil Wayne has announced that he will never perform at the NFL championship. In a candid interview, the 42-year-old artist expressed his feelings about being overlooked for the halftime show, which was headlined by Kendrick Lamar.

Rapper Lil Wayne Vows To Never Perform At The NFL Championship

“They stole that feeling,” Wayne told the Rolling Stone on Thursday. He added, “I don’t want to do it. It was perfect.” Earlier this year, the Super Bowl took place in his hometown of New Orleans. Lil Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., has long harboured dreams of performing during a Super Bowl halftime show. He admitted in a previous interview that being passed over this time “broke” him inside, as he shared in a video.

Despite the excitement surrounding Lamar’s performance, Wayne chose not to watch the halftime show and instead spent his time playing pool with his friend and fellow rapper Lil Twist. “Every time I looked,” he added about Lamar’s performance, “It was nothing that made me want to go inside and see what was going on.” In the interview, Wayne also elaborated on the challenges he faced in trying to secure the gig. “To perform, it’s a bunch of things they’re going to tell you to do and not do, a**es to kiss and not kiss,” he explained.

“If you notice, I was a part of things I’ve never been a part of. Like [Michael] Rubin’s all-white parties. I’m doing s**t with Tom Brady. That was all for that. You ain’t never seen me in them types of venues. I ain’t Drake. I ain’t out there smiling like that everywhere. I’m in the stu’, smokin’ and recording.” After making efforts to put himself out there, Wayne felt confident about being selected as the headliner. However, when Lamar was announced, someone from the NFL told him, “We ain’t in charge” of the halftime show. “All of a sudden, according to them, they got curved. So, I’m going to have to just settle with whatever they say,” he added.

Wayne has since shifted focus back to music, recently performing at the Saturday Night Live 50th anniversary special. As for the NFL, the door is closed. His message is loud and clear: You only get one chance to honour your hometown legend, and they blew it.
