Review

Chinmay Mandlekar’s Inspector Zende, produced by Jay Shewakramani and Om Raut, is a refreshing crime comedy thriller inspired by true events. The film is based on Mumbai’s iconic cop, Inspector Madhukar Bapurao Zende’s (Manoj Bajpayee) relentless pursuit to catch and imprison dreaded criminal Carl Bhojraj (Jim Sarbh) – inspired by the infamous serial killer Charles Sobhraj.

The film begins with Carl escaping from Tihar jail with a couple of his supporters after treating the entire jail to kheer laced with sleeping pills to celebrate his birthday. In order to apprehend him before he leave the country, the police turn to Inspector Zende, a Mumbai police office who has caught Carl 15 years earlier. After reports of him being in Mumbai reached the official, the criminal and his goons head to Panvel and from there to Goa to board a ship leaving for America.

To make sure that the Mumbai police gets the credit for capturing Carl after his escape from the city to Goa, Zende’s boss (Sachin Khedekar), hands over the case to him to find and apprehend him. How does Zende finally catch Carl again with limited aid and no support from the Goa Police? To know that, you need to watch his epic cat and mouse chase on Netflix.
