Snow White Review

‘Waiting on a wish…’ that Disney either stars doing justice to its live action fairy tales to just stick to making them animated because they’ve once again disappointed. Don’t get me wrong, Marc Webb’s Snow White is entertaining it you are a fan of Disney fairy tales, else it too much of song and drama with no dance and magical nostalgia.

Set in a far away kingdom, Snow White kicks off with a melodious introduction of the kind and good-hearted King & Queen (Hadley Fraser and Lorena Andrea), their beloved daughter, Snow White (Emilia Faucher and Olivia Verrall as the young and baby versions respectively) and their happy kingdom. However, tragedy soon strikes leading to the Queen’s demise and the King then marrying the beautiful Evil Queen (Gal Gadot) who has everyone captured under her illusion of goodness.

Owing to her persuasion, the King heads off to war only to never be seen again, leaving Snow White an orphan and a servant to the Evil Queen. While the kingdom is in dismay, the Queen amassed a fortune by seizing all the precious jewels. As with the story and animated film, the Evil Queen is obsessed with being the fairest in the entire kingdom and keeps getting the needed reassurance from her magic mirror. Years pass and now we meet Snow White as a youth (Rachel Zegler).

When the magic mirror begins taking Snow’s name as the fairest in the kingdom, the angry and jealous Evil Queen tells her huntsman to take her step daughter to the would, kill her and bring her her heart. However, moved by her kindness, the huntsman tells her to run away into the wood and away from the kingdom. There she meets the animals of the forest, the 7 dwarfs and a band of bandits who fight in the Late King’s name.

What follows is a how Snow White – with her allies, takes back her kingdom and bring prosperity to its subjects but with a bit of 21st century essence.

Conclusion

As a fan of the animated film and the book, Disney’s musical live action Snow White is good but flawed to an extent that if you aren’t a fairy tales lover, you will be bored. However, if you love fairy tales or have kids who are still enjoying life in the Disney era, do watch it in theatres for the experience.

Hope our Snow White review helps you in deciding if the film is worth a watch – in theatres, or no.
