When Deepika Padukone borrowed Rs 10,000 from her mother to shoot a portfolio

Deepika Padukone made her Hindi film debut with Om Shanti Om opposite Shah Rukh Khan and then there was no looking back for her. Over the years, Deepika has delivered terrific performances in movies. Today, she is one of the highest-paid celebrities in Bollywood and that speaks for her success. However, there was a time when she had to borrow Rs 10,000 from her mother before making it big in Bollywood.

Deepika borrowed Rs 10,000 for portfolio shoot

In 2017, Deepika made her Hollywood debut with XXX: The Return of Xander Cage. The actress had made an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. On the show, Deepika was asked her father Prakash Padukone’s badminton career. At the time, Deepika had said, “He played at a time in India when nobody really played professional badminton… everybody wanted to become a doctor or a lawyer, but he was a sportsperson.”

Deepika, who is currently ruling Bollywood, was then asked whether she wanted to follow in her father’s footsteps before stepping into the modelling or entertainment world. The actress said, “I would have made him happy but he always said, follow your heart.”

She then talked about her love for acting and said, “I knew by the time that I was 16 that I wanted to be an actress. And that being in front of the camera made me very, very happy. I sat my mother down one day and said ‘Can I please borrow Rs 10,000 from you? I needed money to shoot a portfolio. I told them one day I’d make them proud, and someday I’d repay them.”

Since making her debut, Deepika has achieved a lot in her life. Recently, it was announced that she will be one of the presenters at the Oscars 2023. The actress made Indians proud with the good news. The actress’ fans are now waiting for her to take the Oscars stage. The prestigious Awards ceremony will take place on 13^th March, 2023.
