Late actress Sridevi ruled the hearts of her fans in the ’70s and ’80s. In her legacy that spans fifty years, the Diva is known for delivering some memorable blockbusters. Sridevi went on to be an icon with some spectacular author-backed roles in Chaalbaaz, Chandni and more. Today on her fifth death anniversary here is a memorable anecdote that reveals her star power in Bollywood.
Late actress Sridevi was called the Lady Bachchan of Bollywood. She not only received equal pay as her male counterparts but often had roles just written for her. But do you know the Diva had refused to sign a film with Amitabh Bachchan and he had to send a truckload of flowers to woo her for the film.
Amitabh Bachchan sent a truckload of flowers to Sridevi
It so happened that Amitabh Bachchan was roped in to play the leading role in Khuda Gawah. The megastar was keen on Sridevi to play the leading lady opposite him in the movie. But, Sridevi refused the film opposite Amitabh Bachchan unless she had an equally solid role. Amitabh had to woo her by sending a truckload of flowers to get her to act opposite him in Khuda Gawah.
Sridevi believed that there is not much scope for a heroine to perform in an Amitabh Bachchan film. She will be just a showpiece in the movie. To change her mind Big B sent a truckload of roses to Sridevi. The beauty was blown over by the gesture and ended up being the female lead in the film.
But before signing the dotted lines she asked for a double role and equal screen time as Amitabh Bachchan. The actress was seen playing the mother and daughter in the movie. The rest is history and Khuda Gawah went on to be a blockbuster hit.
Sridevi and Boney Kapoor
Sridevi tied the knot with filmmaker Boney Kapoor and both of them became the dotting parents of two daughters, Janhvi and Khushi. Janhvi marked her Bollywood debut with Dhadak. Khushi Kapoor is debuting in Zoya Akhtar’s The Archies with Suhana Khan and Agastya Nanda.
