Rishab Shetty Supports Yash After Toxic Faces Criticism; Says, “Love You For Taking Kannada Cinema To The Global Stage”

The Kannada film industry continues to rally behind Yash-led pan-India film Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown Ups, which has received mixed to negative reviews since its release on August 26. Following support from Upendra and Kichcha Sudeepa, Kantara star Rishab Shetty has now voiced his praise for the actor and Toxic via X, calling it a “daring experiment” despite the criticism. Taking to X, Rishab Shetty shared, “As an artist, when you play a character, you try to bring it to life from the bottom of your heart. And here, I am truly impressed by the conviction with which the struggle of a powerful man has been portrayed. Maybe the plot and driving characters are not on the usual track on which most films travel, but that doesn’t mean the track is wrong. The effort that goes into telling a story and the journey it takes from being a thought in the mind to becoming a film on screen is humongous.”

He further praised Yash for surrendering himself to a larger-than-life performance, adding, “@TheNameIsYash sir, hats off to the way you have surrendered yourself to a character and a world that demands a larger-than-life performance. I could clearly feel that in every single scene.” Shetty also expressed his support for Kannada cinema’s global ambitions, saying, “We love you for the love you have for taking Kannada cinema to the global stage.”

He concluded his message with best wishes for the film’s producers and director Geetu Mohandas.

Toxic was among the most anticipated films of the year. Originally scheduled for a March release, it was postponed to June, then pushed further to August 26. Despite high expectations, the film has struggled to make a significant impact, receiving criticism from critics and audiences alike, with a noticeable decline in collections after a strong opening.

Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the film features Yash as Raya/Ticket. The star cast also includes Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria, Rukmini Vasanth, Huma Qureshi, and Akshay Oberoi. The movie has grossed Rs 190.45 crore in India, with a worldwide total of Rs 254.75 crore.
