Vijay arrived at the CBI headquarters in Lodhi Road, New Delhi, around 10:20 am in a convoy of luxury SUVs and left approximately at 5 pm, according to officials.
Vijay Thalapathy Summoned For 6 Hours By CBI In Karur Stampede
During the session, a team led by a deputy superintendent from the agency’s anti-corruption wing questioned Vijay on various aspects of the rally, including his delay in speech delivery, crowd turnout, and the overall management of the event. The investigators emphasized that any attribution of individual roles in the chargesheet would be determined only after a comprehensive review of the actor’s statement, along with input from senior party officials, police, and district administration officials involved in granting permissions and overseeing security arrangements.
The actor was previously questioned at the CBI headquarters on January 12, for over 6 hours. He was called again on Tuesday but requested a postponement, citing his Pongal celebrations. Sources within the CBI clarified that no one has been cleared of suspicion in the case thus far. The central agency took over the investigation into the stampede tragedy after the SC stated that the incident had deeply shaken the national conscience and emphasized the need for a thorough and impartial inquiry.
About Karur Stampede
The CBI took over the investigation from an SIT based on a Supreme Court order. The agency is examining evidence related to the September 27 stampede in Tamil Nadu’s Karur. It resulted in 41 deaths and injured over 60 people. In October last year, the Supreme Court directed the CBI director to appoint a senior officer for the case. It also established a supervisory committee led by former Supreme Court judge Ajay Rastogi to oversee the probe.
Jana Nayagan Update
Meanwhile, Vijay’s upcoming film, Jana Nayagan, continues to face delays in securing a release. The film’s release was halted after the censor board raised objections to its content. The matter is now under review by the Madras High Court. KVN Productions filed a plea challenging the stay and the CBFC’s certification refusal. However, the Supreme Court declined to entertain the plea and directed the Madras High Court to decide the case by January 20, 2026.
Jana Nayagan, touted as Vijay’s final film before fully entering politics. It was initially scheduled for a Pongal release on January 9. However, last-minute complications arose when the CBFC did not issue certification in time, resulting in the delay.
