TV actors Kunal Verma and Puja Banerjee, who recently claimed to have lost their lifelong savings in a financial scam, are now embroiled in serious allegations of kidnapping and extortion. They are accused of kidnapping Bengali film producer Shyam Sunder Dey in Goa and attempting to seize his properties. The Goa Police have registered an FIR under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Puja Banerjee, Kunal Verma, and their associate Piyush Kothari.

The charges include offenses such as abduction, unlawful confinement, extortion, criminal threats, and conspiracy, under various sections like 126(2), 137(2), 140(2), 308(2), 115(2), 351(3), 61(2), and 3(5). Malabika Dey, wife of the victim, publicly shared a detailed Facebook post along with FIR documents, WhatsApp screenshots, and payment receipts, accusing the couple of coercively extracting money from her husband.

She alleged that while her husband was on a business trip in Goa, Puja, Kunal, and their associates intercepted him, forcibly detained him, and subjected him to mental and physical abuse over several days as part of an extortion scheme. In her post, Malabika claimed, “My husband was kidnapped, held against his will, threatened, and physically assaulted by Puja Banerjee, Kunal Verma, and their influential associate Piyush Kothari. They demanded Rs 64 lakh, threatening to falsely accuse him of a drug case if he didn’t comply. Shyam paid Rs 23 lakh, and I have all receipts and transaction proof.”

She further added, “Puja and Kunal seized my husband’s phones, forced him to reveal personal details and passwords, and recorded videos of him speaking under duress. Thankfully, with the help of the Goa Police, led by the North Goa Superintendent of Police, he has been safely recovered.”

This incident comes shortly after the couple shared a vlog revealing that they had lost their savings in a scam, with Puja mentioning that she didn’t disclose the exact amount but emphasised the emotional toll. This comes a week after revealing their financial loss, Kunal Verma and Puja Banerjee face serious allegations of kidnapping and extortion involving a Bengali film producer in Goa.
