During the nomination special, we saw Rahul Vaidya nominating Jaan Kumar Sanu giving ‘nepotism’ the reason. Rahul said, “I hate nepotism. All the contestants are here because of their own hard work, Jaan is here because he is someone’s son. He doesn’t have any personality of his own.”

Rahul’s statement shocked Rubina Dilaik, Nishant Malkani, Jasmin Bhasin and they said that he shouldn’t have used that word. Jaan reacted saying, “I am fortunate to be the son of Kumar Sanu. Not everyone has this kind of destiny. It’s unfortunate for you.” To which Rahul replied that he doesn’t need his father to be famous to make his mark in the industry. Jaan then told Rahul, “Baap pe mat ja (don’t talk about my father).”

Jaan’s mother Rita Bhattacharya called it a ‘very insulting and disrespectful statement’. She told SpotboyE, “If Rahul feels that Jaan is in the show because of nepotism then how come they are both on the same platform right now? If according to Rahul there is a difference between the insider and outsider then how come he is on the same platform where my son is? Jaan’s father Kumar Sanu has sung almost 23000 songs till now so being his son he must have at least sang 23 songs in the industry with his father’s support. But aisa nahi hai kyunki Jaan ne jo kuch bhi achieve kiya hai apni badolat aya hai.”

Rita also said that Kumar Sanu didn’t want his son to go on the show but it was Jaan’s choice as he wanted to prove himself. She also said that her husband had never requested any music director or composer to give a chance to his son because they believe that their children will make their own name. She added, “With due respect, I would like to say my other two sons are better singers than Rahul Vaidya, forget about Jaan. But they are not in public as they don’t want to.”
