‘TV is under pressure,’ says Divyanka

Recently, in a new episode of Let’s Talk With Bollywood Bubble, Divyanka opened up about TV and OTT. When asked if she feels TV is under pressure because of OTT, Divyanka said, “Yes, acha hai aana chahiye (Good thats how it should be).”

The actress added, “Mein toh kehti hu competition bahut acha hota hai. Jitna competition hoga hum utna improve karenge. And Television space, TV ke joh makers the woh thode complacent hogaya the shayad, aur bahut formula driven kaam karne lage the. And ye formula driven kaam sab jagah hota hai TV ya films ho, and even web series. Crime series chali toh sab web series crime wale aani lagi thi. So, formula is basically a lazy thing to do. (Competition is very good. The more competition there is, the more there’ll be improvement. The TV makers have become very complacent, and formula-driven. And this formula-driven work happens everywhere – TV, films, and even web series. Once a crime series worked, the every web series was all about that).”

She later went on to add that audience for web series are different. She added, “Agar aap TV ka concept jara bhi dheela pada toh woh neeche girega. So, acchi baat hai kyuki humse concepts aur enhance hogi.”

When asked what makes her say yes to any show, Divyanka said, “It should not be a purana concept. With due respect and love for this particular show because its doing really well Anupamaa bohot accha chal raha hai (It’s working really well). The actors are doing really well. Aap yakin nahi karenge itni kahaaniya mere samne uske baad mein aagayi joh ki kaafi kuch Anupamaa se inspired hai. (You won’t believe me I’ve been offered so many shows that were inspired by Anupamaa).”

She added, “Mein yeh kehti hu, aap kuch naya kijiye na. Anupamaa bhi toh ek naya show tha, naya concept lekar aaye. Mohabbatein bhi waisa hi tha kuch naya lekar aaye the. Humesha kuch naya create karna chahiye. Inspiration theek hai par usme woh maza nahi hai joh nayi creativity mein hai. (I want to tell one thing, do something new. Anupamaa was also a new show with a new concept. Mohabbatein was also like that it was new. So, there should be something new everytime. Inspiration is fine but it lacks fun).”

During the candid conversation, Divyanka also spilled the beans on facing contractual exploitations, heartbreaks, adopting a baby and a lot more.
