Alia Bhatt recalls father Mahesh Bhatt’s struggle: He barely had money and was battling an alcohol addiction

Alia Bhatt, daughter of Mahesh Bhatt and Soni Razdan, is one of the most popular and successful actresses in Bollywood. She made her debut with Karan Johar’s Student of the Year and then there was no looking back for her. The actress has appeared in movies like Gangubai Kathiawadi, Brahmastra Part One – Shiva, RRR, Raazi, Darlings, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, and Shaandaar among others. Alia’s journey has been exciting. As she enjoys her success, in her recent interview, Alia opened up about her parents’ struggles.

Alia Bhatt talks about parents’ struggles

Talking about her father, Alia Bhatt told Elle US, “He (Mahesh Bhatt) had a bunch of flops at one point, he barely had any money, and he was battling an addiction to alcohol. He gave up drinking eventually and saw many ups and downs in his life, as well as his career. My parents struggled to get to a point where I could enjoy their privilege. I do recognize that.” She added that if stop getting films, she will always acknowledge that she has got great opportunities.

Furthermore, Alia spoke about her mother’s struggle, recalling how she ‘couldn’t speak Hindi well’ during her initial days and that she had ‘no connections’. The actress said, “My mother came from nowhere and didn’t know how she was going to make it. She had no connection to films and went from theatres to film studios to television studios to audition. She also couldn’t speak Hindi well, so that was difficult for her. She never became a mainstream heroine. But she worked very hard. People say you just need to work hard and you’ll make it, but that’s not true.”

On the work front, Alia last delivered a terrific performance as Rani Chatterjee in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. The actress will be next seen in Jigra, which she is co-producing with Karan Johar. The upcoming film is directed by Vasan Bala. For the uninitiated, Alia earlier co-produced the Netflix film Darlings.
