Ayushmann Khurrana: Being a rule-breaker has been my USP
2018 was a great year for Bollywood as it learned a very important lesson. The films, which became blockbusters, were mainly based on great content and new ideas. From ‘Badhaai Ho’ to ‘Veere Di Wedding’ to ‘Stree’, these films established some actors as the most bankable stars in the industry. Joining the league of such stars is Ayushmann Khurrana.
He gave unconventional films like ‘Andhadhun’ and ‘Badhaai Ho’. These films gave Ayushmann a tag of rule-breaker and Mr Dependable. However, speaking to DNA in an interview, Ayushmann expressed his happiness on being tagged as a rule-breaker.
The ‘Badhaai Ho’ actor also shared that he is the quintessential rule-breaker and that has helped him enjoy the perks of success. He further said, “It’s important to be a rule-breaker in this day and age because we need to churn out content that is radical, has no reference point and is out-of-the-box. And to do that, you have to be someone who defies the norms. I’ve been like that from my first film itself. The choices that I’ve made may seem difficult or different to my contemporaries on paper, but I went ahead with them and reaped benefits. Being a rule-breaker has been my USP.”
Talking about being termed as Mr Dependable, Ayushmann asserted that he can be both the rule-breaker and Mr Dependable. The actor also talked about how numbers at the box office help in being called a bankable actor in the industry and said, “The dependable tag has come with the box-office success and the fact that my last four films have performed well. It’s more a commercial tag than anything else.”
It is to be noted that after two hit films, Ayushmann is in his top form. He has been picking up scripts that no one else in the film industry has picked up and has also been reaping the benefits of being the first mover.
Ayushmann’s next is titled Dream Girl and it is again an off-beat subject with a hint of comedy in it. Directed by Raaj Shaandaliyaa, the movie stars Nushrat Barucha as well and is being filmed in UP. The movie will hit the theatres this year.
