Legendary filmmaker Basu Chatterjee left for the heavenly abode today. The 93-year-old filmmaker died due to age-related ailments. The entire B-town took to the social media sites to mourn the death of the iconic filmmaker who gave us some gem of the films like ‘Khatta Meetha’, ‘Piya Ka Ghar’ and ‘Baton Baton Mein’ to name a few.

Apart from Bollywood celebrities several politicians also mourned the filmmaker’s death and shared heartfelt tribute for him on their social media handles. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mamta Banerjee, Jyotiraditya Scindia and several other eminent politicians mourned the filmmaker’s death.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing his grief wrote, “Sad to hear of the demise of Shri Basu Chatterjee. His works are brilliant and sensitive. It touched people’s hearts and represented the simple and complex emotions, as well as struggles of people. Condolences to his family and innumerable fans. Om Shanti.”

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote, “Saddened at the demise of legendary film director and screenwriter Basu Chatterjee. He gave us gems like ‘Chhoti Si Baat’, ‘Chitchor’, ‘Rajanigandha’, ‘Byomkesh Bakshi’, ‘Rajni’ among others. Condolences to his family, friends, fans & the entire film fraternity”

“RIP #BasuChatterjee. One of the greatest filmmakers of all time; his slice-of-life films will live in our hearts forever,” tweeted Jyotiraditya M Scindia.

Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chouhan offering his condolences wrote, “Anguished by the demise of one of the most prominent personalities of Film industry, renowned Director Shri #BasuChatterjee.Ek Ruka Hua Faisla, Chhoti Si Baat, Rajnigandha, and many more were an accurate & strong reflection of Social concurrent. My condolences to the family.”

The veteran filmmaker passed away in his sleep at his Santacruz residence in Mumbai. Reportedly his last rites are scheduled to be held at a crematorium in Santacruz at 3 pm.
