Bombay HC quashes Maharashtra government’s guidelines of not allowing actors above 65 to shoot; Surekha Sikri and Kanwaljit Singh react

The senior actors of the film and television industry can rejoice now as the Bombay High Court has quashed the restriction of Maharashtra government of not allowing cast and crew above the age of 65 years on the film and tv sets owing to Covid-19 pandemic. Earlier several senior actors like Surekha Sikri and Kanwaljit Singh had expressed their displeasure on the Maharashtra govt’s decision.

Announcing Bombay Highcourt’s decision news Agency ANI tweeted, “Bombay High Court allows all persons above 65 years of age working in the entertainment industry to work on a film set. The court sets aside the state government order.”

As per ANI report, Justice SJ Kathawalla and Justice Riyaz I Chagla heard the petition filed by Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association (IMPPA) and actor Pramod Pandey. This petition had challenged the Maharashtra government’s guidelines. They had raised the question as to how senior citizens in other professions were allowed to work but not in the entertainment industry.

Now as per the HC’s directive all the producers, technicians, workers and artistes above 65 years of age can resume their work adhering to the basic guidelines.

Reacting on the HC’s new directive, actor Kanwaljit told SpotBoyE, “I am really happy that finally, they have permitted us to start shooting. But some of the actors like me have already been replaced. In fact, I had rented a flat in Mira road near the set as I don’t have to go up down from Juhu to Mira road in this corona crisis. But it all got wasted. I would like to work with the producers in future.”

Wheres ‘Badhaai Ho actress Surekha Sikri told the portal, “I am feeling extremely relieved with this decision. I think it’s a very positive move and I am waiting to get back to the action.”
