Director Abhinav Kashyap Once Revealed Why Arbaaz Khan Approached Him To Direct Dabangg 2; Stated, “He Never Obliged Me, He Gave Me A Break”

Director Abhinav Kashyap – who is known for his directorial debut Dabangg, has been making the headlines over the last several weeks for his controversial statement. Over the last several years – especially the las couple of weeks, the filmmaker has been taking potshots at Dabangg producer Arbaaz Khan and actor Salman Khan.

While he continues to make shocking statements, we’ve come across an old interview of Kashyap wherein Kashyap was seen praising Arbaaz Khan for giving him a break in Dabangg. Scroll below to know what he said.

Abhinav Kashyap: Arbaaz Khan Gave Me A Break

During a past Bollywood Hungama interview, when asked about whether it felt like an obligation to direct Dabangg 2 after delivering a super hit with the first film, Abhinav Kashyap replied in a mix of Hindi and English, “There is no obligation. It’s one of the biggest hits of all time. Obligation happens between two people – one who obliges someone, the other who feels the obligation.”

He continued, “Arbaaz has never obliged me. I feel the obligation because I feel that this is my first film, and Arbaaz gave me a break. But Arbaaz has never intended to oblige me. He has never done me a favour. In fact, he looked after me very well and I’m very happy with the support.”

When it was pointed out that it seemed like he was obliged, the director replied, “You know, there’s a super hit film, there’s a sequel coming to it. The obligation is being given by you, the media, the third party. People expect me to do Dabang 2. (The pressure) is from people, the media. Everyone I interact with asks, ‘When is Dabangg 2 coming? When is Dabangg 2 coming?’ You asked, ‘When is Dabangg 2 coming?’ You have increased the hope… Arbaaz feels the pressure of hope, and so do I. That’s why Arbaaz has to give me the first option of doing the sequel. And I feel that if we keep doing it under the pressure of the public’s hope, we won’t be able to do anything in our own lives.”
