Rani Mukerji hoists Indian flag IFFM

‘Mardaani’ actress Rani Mukerji, was invited as a special guest at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne recently. The actress commenced the festival by hosting the Indian flag in Federation square. She was joined by Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews and IFFM director Mitu Lange.

According to a report in Times of India, talking about her experience of hoisting the Indian flag in Australia, in her speech, the actress said, “I think it’s a matter of national honour for anyone to hoist their national flag. And the fact that I’m doing it in Australia so far away from home is even more special and makes it more patriotic. I’m humbled that this honour’s been bestowed upon me by Mitu and the Victorian government so I must thank them.”

Remembering her late father, Ram Mukerji, on the occasion, the actress even said,“I most remember the patriotic song from my father’s film ‘Hum Hindustani’, ‘Chodo Kal Ki batein’. I really miss him here today.”

‘Love Sonia’ starring Richa Chadha, Freida Pinto and Rajkummar Rao was the opening film of the festival this year. And apart from Rani, the other Bollywood stars who also graced the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne were Vicky Kaushal, Rajkumar Hirani and Richa Chadha.
