Actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has spoken out in support of Trisha Krishnan amid the controversy surrounding the actor’s presence at the Independence Day 2026 celebrations in Chennai. Kangana’s remarks come after DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin allegedly made an offensive remark against Trisha. The actress is believed to share an alleged close relation with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay. Scroll down to read the full article.
Kangana Ranaut Speaks On Character Assassination Of Women
Trisha had attended the Independence Day celebrations at Fort St George on August 15. She was seated next to Vijay’s parents, SA Chandrasekhar and Shobha Chandrasekhar. Her presence at the event sparked renewed speculation about her equation with the Tamil actor-turned-politician. In a new video shared by news agency PTI, Kangana spoke to reporters after chairing the District Development Coordination and Monitoring meeting in Kullu. Without directly naming Trisha, the actor highlighted how women are often targeted through attacks on their character.
“We all know that this is not restricted to India alone and is prevalent worldwide that character of working women, successful women, actors, politicians, women at the position of power and authority is targeted to bring her down,” she said.
“You have seen what happened in Tamil Nadu, where a very respected artist and actress was involved in a matter where the relationship was between both parties. However, when it comes to abuses and character lynching, it is always the woman who is targeted.”
What Did Udhayanidhu Stalin Say?
The controversy erupted last month when DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin was addressing a rally organised to press the Tamil Nadu government over the Cauvery water-sharing issue, a long-standing point of contention between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. During the rally, as the crowd chanted Trisha’s name, Udhayanidhi made an obscene remark, triggering widespread criticism.
The following day, Udhayanidhi was arrested from his residence in Chennai at around 10 am. He was taken to Thanjavur, where he had made the controversial comment. The DMK subsequently staged protests and approached the Madras High Court, following which the former state minister was released.
Meanwhile, Vijay completed 100 days as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, even as speculation surrounding his equation with Trisha continued to make headlines. Rumours about their alleged relationship intensified after Vijay’s estranged wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam, filed for divorce, reportedly citing alleged infidelity. Trisha’s emotional appearance at Vijay’s oath-taking ceremony in May 2026 further fuelled speculation about the two.
Sangeetha Sornalingam’s Divorce Case
More recently, reports claimed that Sangeetha had withdrawn the divorce petition she filed before the Chengalpattu Family Court. The court subsequently closed the case after she informed it that she did not wish to pursue the matter further.
Neither Vijay nor Trisha has publicly confirmed the relationship rumours.
