He recounted how Aditya Chopra played a crucial role early in his journey, inviting him to assist on Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) just as he was contemplating further studies abroad. Johar described a memorable late-night conversation where Chopra encouraged him to pursue directing, assuring him he was destined for this path. Initially uncertain, Johar sought his late father Yash Johar’s permission to spend a year working on a film set. His father advised that passion was the key to becoming a director, emphasising that hard work alone could lead to a career as a producer.

The second defining moment Johar shared was a trip to Switzerland with Shah Rukh Khan. During a hilltop conversation, Khan confidently told him, “Tu director banega and teri pehli film main karoonga” (“You will become a director, and I will star in your first film”). Johar initially thought Khan was joking, but Khan followed through on his promise, even discussing the project with Johar’s father upon returning to India.

Johar expressed heartfelt gratitude, saying, “I love you Adi and Bhai… I am here with my strengths and flaws, my ups and downs, my wins and my losses, only and only because of the both of you.” He concluded by wishing everyone a happy Guru Purnima and paying tribute to mentors who selflessly help shape others’ careers.
