It’s Kartik Aaryan vs Akshay Kumar at the box office on Diwali 2024

The names of Kartik Aaryan and Akshay Kumar have been said in the same breath a lot of times in the recent years. It all started when Kartik starred in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, after Akshay played the lead in Bhool Bhulaiyaa. Then people started seeing Kartik as a younger Akshay with his comic capabilities. Now, the two are set to clash at the box office as well.

On March 1 this year, Kartik announced that after the success of BB 2, he will be returning with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 on Diwali 2024. Anees Bazmee will be directing the film after helming BB 2 as well. Bhushan Kumar of T Series will be producing the film and the team was the first to lock the Diwali date next year.

Now, on Friday, Akshay added some more excitement for Diwali 2024. He announced returning to the Housefull franchise with Housefull 5. The film will mark his return with Riteish Deshmukh to the series. The fifth part is being directed by Dostana fame Tarun Mansukhani and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. With this announcement, a box office clash has been set up between Kartik and Akshay on Diwali 2024.

Kartik and Akshay had a release just one week next to each other this year as well. While Kartik’s Shehzaada released on February 17, Akshay’s Selfiee opened on February 24. Unfortunately, both the films didn’t perform well at the box office. But with this holiday clash, here’s hoping that both films perform exceedingly well.

The cast of both Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Housefull 5 are still under wraps and highly awaited. A while ago, Paresh Rawal had also shared that Kartik will be replacing Akshay in Hera Pheri 4 when the latter decided not to return. However, eventually the original trio of Akshay, Paresh and Suniel Shetty reunited for the much-awaited sequel.

Kartik’s SatyaPrem Ki Katha recently released on June 29 and the film has been getting a lot of appreciation. SatyaPrem Ki Katha collected Rs 9.25 crores at the box office on Day 1. Up next, he has Aashiqui 3 with Anurag Basu and Kabir Khan’s next.

As for Akshay, the actor has OMG 2 releasing next on August 11. Post that, he has Soorarai Pottru remake, The Great Indian Rescue, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Hera Pheri 4 and Jolly LLB 3 in the pipeline.
