Saurabh Shukla, who had taken a hiatus from acting to focus on his directorial project, announces that he is now set to resume shooting for Shah Rukh Khan’s King. His directorial debut, Jab Khuli Kitaa, with Pankaj Kapur and Dimple Kapadia, was released recently. Over the past few years, Shukla’s focus shifted entirely to directing, with the actor in him taking a backseat as he helmed Jab Khuli Kitaaab and worked towards its release.
Saurabh Shukla Reveals Shooting Portions Of Shah Rukh Khan’s King
Gradually, however, acting called him back. Shukla, who had previously shot scenes for King last year, is now preparing to resume filming the remaining portions, which also feature Shah Rukh Khan’s daughter, Suhana Khan. “I shot for it [last year], and I will shoot the remaining portions [soon],” he shared with Mid-Day.
Taking a break from acting to develop his directorial venture meant letting go of the financial security that acting projects typically provide. But Shukla believes the rewards are more fulfilling. “From an actor’s perspective, [taking a break] is difficult; it’s also stupid at times. But when I was living it, it was easy. Physically, I cannot be present at two places,” he explained.
“I’m a firm believer that there is only one life. So, I have no plans of saying, ‘I will act in this life, and direct in the next,’” he smiled. He also added that writing enhances his acting skills: “I always say, ‘If you want to be an actor, please write. Look at paintings, sing, pursue music because it gives you a sense of rhythm. Everything is interrelated.’”
Saurabh Shukla’s Projects
Recently, he had two releases — Subedaar with Anil Kapoor. It dropped on Prime Video, and Jab Khuli Kitaaab, now streaming on Zee5. Each showcases different aspects of his craft. Though juggling acting, directing, and writing can be overwhelming, Shukla remains driven by many dreams.
