Apparently, the case was registered by Mumbai police after a complaint was lodged against Koena by a model named Poonam Sethi. Reports state that the actress was asked to pay Rs 4.64 lakhs (of which 1.64 lakhs was the interest component) back to the model. Six years back, Koena borrowed about Rs. 22 lakhs from the model and during the time of repayment of the loan, she had offered a cheque worth Rs 3 lakhs. Later, it is said to have bounced due to insufficient funds in Koena’s account.

Following the incident, Poonam Sethi sent a legal notice to Koena in the month of July 2013, and later in October same year, she had filed a court complaint.

Apparently, most of Koena’s arguments were rejected by the Metropolitan Court Magistrate Ketaki Chavan of Andheri. However, the actress is said to be sentenced for six months of jail.

While talking about the case, Koena has informed Mumbai Mirror, “The case is totally false and I have been framed in the matter. During the final argument, my lawyer could not be present in the court and hence my side was not heard and the order was passed without my hearing. We will be challenging the judgment in the higher court and my lawyers are in the process of appealing.”
