Kapil Sharma & Team

Troubles don’t seem to end for Kapil Sharma. His popular comedy show ‘Comedy Nights With Kapil’ came to a sudden and unfortunate end over growing bitterness between Kapil and Colours authority. Now we hear that his new TV show where he is going to be back as a host and comedian, is facing legal troubles.

Over last three years, Kapil’s show has consecutively won the crown of the most popular TV show (non-fiction). The characters of the show performed had earned bags full of popularity. It’s quite obvious that he would want to retain the characters even in his new show. But that is where copyrights issues crop up.

Dadi, Gutthi, Palak. All of them we adore so much. However, all these characters and their appearances are copyright protected by Colours. The team started rehearsing for an upcoming event on February 19 scheduled in Surat where they were planning to perform as their old ‘Comedy Nights’ avatars. However, Colours slammed Sunil Grover (Gutthi) and Ali Asgar (Dadi) with a legal notice. Ali’s popular get-up in the show was an old lady with grey hair and a bun while Sunil wore ribbons. The notice has prohibited both of them from attiring like that.

Kapil and his team have been brainstorming really hard for the new show which will reportedly air on Sony Entertainment Network. The viewers, of course, want to see the same old characters where on the other hand, it’s not really possible. Escaping the legal soup and satisfying the viewers too, seems a task!

“Kapil’s team can’t have the same characters because Colors owns the rights to the original show on television. The team is taking legal advice to bring back the original characters in avatars that won’t amount to a breach of contract with Colors. Viewers want to see the same characters again. So they have to make sure viewers don’t feel cheated. At the same time, the truth is that the same characters can’t be relocated to Sony. They have to be re-created”- a source was quoted by a leading daily.
