Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur starrer Jersey released on April 22. The sports drama is a remake of the 2019 National Award-winning Telugu film of the same name. It starred Nani and Shraddha Srinath. Given the buzz of the film and the way it was promoted, Jersey failed to live up to the expectations in box office. Though the movie received positive reviews, but it didn’t help to get positive response at the ticket windows. It faced a tough competition with Yash starrer KGF 2 that released on April 14. As per Bollywood Hungama, the Shahid Kapoor’s film has grossed only Rs 17.20 crore domestically. In an interview, Mrunal has opened up on Jersey’s box-office failure.

She said, “It is disappointing, no doubt. But there have been many external reasons. Lekin haan, one does tend to feel low. Anyway, we will work harder next time. One more reason can be that the South version has been available on YouTube.”

Mrunal further said that she doesn’t know what people want to watch. She feels that maybe they want to larger-than-life content. “But an actor does not choose films. It is really mysterious. Even romantic films are not being made; I would love to explain the genre of romance,” said the actress.

Gowtam Tinnanuri’s directorial is as an emotional tale of an ageing cricketer and his desire to return to the sport, to fulfil his son’s dream – getting the Indian team jersey for him.

An excerpt of Jersey review by Bollywood Bubble read: Jersey is an emotional roller coaster ride that will make you laugh, cry and also cheer for Shahid. Watch it for the stellar performances and Shahid’s incredible effort. He’s truly the best this generation has got.
