Actress Pooja Bedi recently reacted to the nepotism row that has emerged over the year. The actress, who was last seen in the web series Masaba Masaba, said that it is unfair to accuse anyone of it as it leads to brutal celebrity bashing and trolling. Pooja Bedi told Times Of India that it is unfair to blame nepotism on a star child who is eager to join the film industry as she believes that ‘there is equal opportunity for all. Giving her own example, Pooja said that she had to also give an audition before she landed her role in the Neena Gupta starrer Masaba Masaba. The actress said that people only blame nepotism as they are ‘envious’ of the ones born in a certain privilege.

Talking about herself and her daughter Alaya F coming from a actors’ family, Pooja said, “The word ‘nepotism’ has been thrown at us so much! Of course, when I decided to get into films, it was natural that people would lash out. They feel a sense of unfairness. My daughter, in one of the interviews, beautifully summed it up when she said that even in our struggle, we are privileged. This is so true because, at the end of the day, you can’t stop somebody from pursuing their dreams, just because they happen to be in the same family. You can’t say that just because you’re an actor’s son, you should not be an actor, as otherwise you’d be accused of nepotism. That’s absurd.”

Bedi also said that many outsiders like Preity Zinta, Sushmita Sen, Aishwarya Rai, Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit, and others have entered the industry as outsiders and have made their mark, she said, “We have Preity G Zinta, Sushmita Sen, Aishwarya Rai, Madhuri Dixit, Shah Rukh Khan and so many other people who have come into the industry with no background and become icons. At the same time, we have people who’ve been part of the industry, and yet fizzled out. Kumar Gaurav made a great debut with Love Story, but his career didn’t take off.”
