Since Rajpal Yadav was recently sent to Tihar Jail over a Rs 9 crore debt and cheque bounce case, many in the Hindi film industry have come forward to offer financial support. The latest to do so is director Priyadarshan. He revealed that the makers of his upcoming comedy, starring Pankaj Tripathi and Yadav, have increased the actor’s fee in light of his current situation. Priyadarshan is keen to help Rajpal Yadav financially and is arranging for a higher remuneration for him in the next project.
Rajpal Yadav To Play Villain In Priyadarshan’s Next Film?
Speaking to Mid-Day, Priyadarshan said, “I have known Rajpal for over 20 years.” He added, “I first saw him in Jungle [2000] and was amazed by his performance. My first film with him was Malamaal Weekly [2006], and since then, he has starred in most of my movies. I told the producers [Jubilee Films] that we should pay Rajpal more than his usual fee because of his situation. We want to support him. The producers have agreed. Rajpal plays the villain in my film.”
As a close associate, Priyadarshan has been aware of Yadav’s financial struggles. “I knew about his problems, which is why I kept casting Rajpal in every film and pushed him in ad campaigns too. He made a mistake because of his lack of education. Rajpal is a good-hearted person,” he said.
It is reported that Yadav borrowed Rs 5 crore in 2010 to fund his directorial venture, Ata Pata Laapata (2012). The film’s failure at the box office and unpaid dues over the years have reportedly increased his debt to nearly Rs 9 crore.
