With just days left until the trailer of Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash-led Ramayana release, the hype surrounding the epic is at an all time high. While a section of the media is being shown the trailer today, a Pratham Sankalp launch event was held in Delhi on Saturday, July 18 where the trailer was shown to a select few. The exclusive preview was meant only for those present, however, shortly after the screening, a phone-recorded clip began circulating online. As per reports, the clip was 1 minute and 28 seconds longs and comprised certain key scenes from trailer.

As per a Mid Day report, soon after the Pratham Sankalp screening of Ramayana Part 1, a 88-second-long clip of the trailer went viral on social media. According to their sources, the footage – allegedly recorded on an attendee’s phone during the event, capturing key moments, including Lord Rama’s entry sequence. It also showed the moment Rama agrees to honour his father’s promise to Kaikeyi and leave Ayodhya.

Soon after the leak, producer Namit Malhotra and director Nitesh Tiwari activated their anti-piracy partners. They also got their legal teams into action to identify and remove unauthorised uploads of the clip. A source close to the production told the publication that the takedown effort has been underway since Saturday night, with the clip successfully pulled from Reddit by Sunday morning, though scrubbing it from X (formerly Twitter) has proven more difficult.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana is a two-part mythological epic inspired by Valmiki’s ancient Sanskrit epic. The franchise stars Ranbir Kapoor stars as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, and Ravi Dubey as Lakshmana. The supporting cast also includes Lara Dutta, Rakul Preet Singh, Kajal Aggarwal, and Vivek Oberoi.

The franchise – spanning two films, depicts Lord Rama’s journey from being the prince of Ayodhya to becoming dharma’s upholder. As per reports, the first part covers Rama’s early life, his marriage to Sita, and his 14-year exile with Sita and Lakshmana after palace politics deny him the throne. The second part is expected to begin with Ravana’s kidnapping of Sita, leading Rama to forge alliances with Sugriva and Hanuman before engaging in a monumental battle against the demon king in Lanka.

The film’s music is being composed by Academy Award winners AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer. The trailer is all set to release on Friday, July 24.
