Superstar Salman Khan has sent a legal notice to the makers of Kala Hiran, a film reportedly inspired by the 1998 black buck poaching case. The actor has alleged a “gross violation of personality rights” and has sought an immediate halt to the film’s release and promotional activities.
Salman Khan Sues Kala Hiran Makers
The notice was issued to casting director Akshay Pandey and concerns the upcoming film directed by Bharat S. Shrinate and produced by Amit Jani, whose banner previously backed Udaipur Files. According to the legal notice, Salman Khan’s legal team argued that the black buck case remains under consideration before the Rajasthan High Court and described the proposed film as “defamatory in nature” and a “gross violation of personality rights.”
The notice further states that developing and releasing the film would amount to “interference with the administration of justice and directly impinges upon our client’s fundamental right to a fair trial.”
Salman’s lawyers also maintained that the actor has “neither authorised nor consented to the use of his name, persona, or the alleged incident associated with him in the proposed film.”
What Did The Notice Say?
As part of the notice, the actor has asked the makers to “Immediately cease and desist from developing, producing, publicising, or otherwise proceeding with any film, project, or content that is based on/inspired by/relates to/is identifiable with our client, including but not limited to the proposed film.” and to “Tender an unconditional written apology to the actor.”
The notice warns that if the filmmakers fail to comply within 24 hours of receiving it. Salman Khan “shall be constrained to initiate appropriate legal proceedings, both civil and criminal, against you and all concerned.”
Soon after, producer Amit Jani shared the legal notice on Facebook and hit back at the actor’s move. “Salman Khan is threatening people related to the movie Kala Hiran with a legal notice. The intent of this legal notice is just intimidation so that people surrender to glamour,” Jani wrote in Hindi, while quoting lines from Rahat Indori’s famous sher, “Hai uski aadat dara raha hai.”
The controversy intensified after the makers unveiled the first-look poster of Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy. The poster features a man resembling Salman Khan holding a gun. Also wearing a turquoise bracelet strikingly similar to the actor’s signature accessory. The makers have described the film as a “gritty narrative rooted in real-world legal battles and action.” They are expected to release its teaser on June 20.
About Salman Khan’s Alleged Poaching Incident
The film draws inspiration from the 1998 black buck poaching case. During the shooting of Hum Saath Saath Hain in Rajasthan. Salman Khan was accused of hunting two black bucks in Kankani village near Jodhpur. In contrast, co-accused actors Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Sonali Bendre, Neelam, and local resident Dushyant Singh were acquitted. A Jodhpur trial court convicted Salman Khan in April 2018 and sentenced him to five years in prison. He later secured bail. In 2022, the Rajasthan High Court transferred all matters related to the case to itself, where proceedings continue.
