Music composer Amaal Mallik has escalated the ongoing royalty and plagiarism controversy in the Indian music industry with a series of sharp accusations aimed at fellow composer Tanishk Bagchi. While not directly naming Bagchi, Amaal referred to him as “Mr Remix & Destroyer of Originals” and accused him of unethical practices, including paying for PR to maintain visibility and taking undue credit for popular songs. Amaal Mallik Accuses Tanishk Bagchi Of Stealing Saiyaara Title Track
In a strongly worded post on X (formerly Twitter), Amaal claimed that Tanishk had previously stolen the title track of Saiyaara without proper acknowledgement, allegedly taking credit under the influence of respect for the original creators, Faheem Abdullah & Arsalan Nizami. Amaal also accused him of using personal heartbreak as a tool to seek sympathy and opportunities, and of misconduct involving female singers, suggesting that Tanishk had asked him to walk away from certain projects and had given him false promises.
He further alleged that Tanishk had copied music from Pakistani songs, folk tunes, and YouTube creators, including tracks from Humnawa Mere and Rataan Lambiyan, implying that many of his “original” hits are actually plagiarised. Amaal pointed out that artists like Jubin Nautiyal and Rocky Khanna had remained silent out of respect, but he refused to stay quiet any longer.
In addition, Amaal criticised Tanishk’s private criticisms of T-Series and Bhushan Kumar, while continuing to work with them, and warned him not to mess with him, comparing himself to a lion in his “jungle.” He also mocked Tanishk’s recent remake versions of popular songs like Sooraj Dooba Hai and Kaun Tujhe, calling them “disgusting” and warning about the consequences of crossing him.
Amaal’s post underscores the deep tensions and ongoing debates over originality, royalty, and ethics in the Indian music industry, with the composer asserting that he will no longer stay silent about these issues.
