Sam Bahadur: Vicky Kaushal and Fatima Sana Shaikh bring out the interesting dynamic between Sam Manekshaw and Indira Gandhi

Vicky Kaushal has won over the nation with his portrayal of Sam Manekshaw in the biopic Sam Bahadur. Ever since his first look was unveiled, the excitement to see him play the character was at the peak. And the actor didn’t disappoint. Not only Vicky Kaushal, but even Fatima Sana Shaikh brought Indira Gandhi to life on screen quite effectively. And what makes it even better is the dynamic betweem Maneskshaw and Gandhi that the actors brought out brilliantly.

For the unversed, Sam Manekshaw was a hero during the 1971 Indo-Pak War. He played a huge role in the independence of East Pakistan and consequently, the creation of Bangladesh. At that time, Indira Gandhi was serving as the Prime Minister of India. The two shared a very trusting bond and both Vicky and Fatima brought that out brilliantly on screen in Sam Bahadur.

The second half of the film explores the strong political drama of that time. Manekshaw became a huge trusted member of the army for Gandhi. She was so impressed by his decision making prowess that she started including him in all important meetings. As even the film shows, Manekshaw was even a part of the meeting when the US President visited India.

Sam Manekshaw and Indira Gandhi had a relationship of trust and respect. The Prime Minister held him in high regards and was really fond of him. But still, Manekshaw never feared speaking his mind in front of her. Both Vicky and Fatima brought that out so beautifully. The two iconic figures shaped Indian history as Gandhi proposed the idea of Mankeshaw becoming the first Indian Field Marshal. And both the actors did full justice in bringing that part of Indian history to the screens.
