Shabana Azmi CJP Chalo Sansad March

On Sunday, June 19, Bollywood actress Shabana Azmi visited Delhi’s Jantar Mantar and stood in support of the protest being held asking the government for accountability over irregularities in the NEET examination. While there, the veteran actress met Cockroach Janata Party founder Abhijeet Dipke – who at that time was on a hunger strike, and even interacted with protesters. Today, she joined hundreds of students and protesters in CJP’s Chalo Sansad (March to Parliament) protest rally demanding accountability and justice for affected students.

Shabana Azmi Gives A Befitting Reply To Questions About Bollywood’s Absence From CJP’s Protest March

While speaking to PTI during CJP’s ‘Chalo Sansad’ (March to Parliament) protest rally, Shabana Azmi said in Hindi, “All of us who are here, have come for a peaceful protest, to exercise the right granted to us by our country’s constitution. Mahatma Gandhi taught us how to conduct a peaceful protest, and we have come here on that very foundation. We have absolutely no intention of causing any kind of violence, and we stand here firmly in that hope.”

When asked about other Bollywood stars’ absence, the 75-year-old actor – who was helped by other protesters as she marched alongside them, said, “You are only worried about the fact that Bollywood celebrities are not present at the March. You don’t worry about the absence of industrialist, all the businessmen. When you ask these question, you sidelining the cause and creating unnecessary controversy. You should support those who are marching for this cause, rather than diluting the matter.”

A while back, Shabana Azmi took to social media and shared a series of post about today’s march from Jantar Mantar to the Parliament. The veteran actress shared a selfie – that also features actor-politician Prakash Raj, and captioned it, “In the truck . The govt has asked to have a dialogue finally. It is a peaceful@protest Jantar Mantar for educational reforms”

Sharing another video, she wrote, “Yahan itni taydad mein jama huye sabhi sathiyon ko naman”

About CJP’s ‘Chalo Sansad’ march

The CJP has been protesting at Jantar Mantar since June 6. Along with climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, the Cockroach Janata Party have been demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Sonam – who was went on an indefinite hunger strike demanding education reforms and accountability over alleged examination irregularities, was forcefully shifted to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital after 22 days of fasting. Following his removal, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke and several other began fasting as well.

On Thursday, July 9, Dipke and Wangchuk announced the ‘Chalo Sansad’ march to Parliament on Monday, July 20 – the opening day of the Parliament’s Monsoon Session.

While many of the biggest names in Indian entertainment have refrained from speaking about the issue, a few other have chosen not to stay silent. While a few visited those fasting at Jantar Mantar, other took to social media to speak about the indefinite hunger strike and peaceful protest. The list of celebrities who have voiced their thoughts include Sonakshi Sinha, Dia Mirza, Shabana Azmi, and Zeenat Aman.

Actor Prakash Raj was also present at Jantar Mantar and in today’s rally.
