After experimenting with action, thrillers and romance over the years, the actor is now reportedly set to headline a quirky sci-fi romantic comedy directed by Amit Sharma. The filmmaker is known for directing critically and commercially successful films like Badhaai Ho and Maidaan.

According to a report by Variety India, Shahid Kapoor has signed an untitled body-swapping romantic comedy inspired by the Italian sci-fi film Husband & Wife. The story reportedly revolves around a married couple on the verge of divorce whose lives take an unexpected turn after a scientific experiment goes wrong and causes them to swap bodies.

The unusual situation forces the couple to experience each other’s daily routines, struggles and emotional challenges firsthand. As the story progresses, they reportedly begin to understand one another better, blending comedy with emotional conflict and relationship drama.

The report further states that the makers are currently finalising the female lead opposite Shahid Kapoor. Kiara Advani and Janhvi Kapoor are reportedly in talks for the role. If Janhvi joins the project, the film will mark her first on-screen collaboration with Shahid. Meanwhile, Kiara has previously shared screen space with the actor in Kabir Singh.

The film is expected to go on floors in late 2026 and is reportedly targeting a theatrical release in mid-2027. However, the makers are yet to officially announce the cast or title.

Shahid Kapoor’s Upcoming Projects

Meanwhile, Shahid Kapoor continues to maintain a packed schedule. The actor is currently shooting for the second season of Farzi alongside Vijay Sethupathi and Kay Kay Menon. Directed by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, the first season premiered in 2023 and received a strong response. For its crime-thriller narrative and performances.

Apart from that, Shahid Kapoor will also feature in Cocktail 2 alongside Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna. Directed by Homi Adajania, the sequel is scheduled to release in theatres on June 19 and remains one of the most discussed upcoming Bollywood projects.

With a sci-fi comedy, a streaming thriller and a major sequel in his line-up, Shahid Kapoor appears to be balancing experimental storytelling with mainstream commercial cinema.
