Sharmila Tagore on retirement of pataudi trophy

Sharmila Tagore married popular cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan in 1968 and their wedding was talk of the town. While Sharmila has an impressive filmography, Mansoor Ali Khan has equally won accolades in the cricket realm. While Mansoor passed away in 2011, he continued to live in the hearts of cricket fans, and the ‘Pataudi Trophy’ soon became a testament to his contribution to the cricket world. However, BCCI and ECB’s alleged plan to retire the trophy has left the Pataudi family and specially Sharmila Tagore hurt.

While talking to Hindustan Times, the actress expressed hurt and said, “I haven’t heard from them, but the ECB has sent a letter to Saif that they are retiring the trophy. If the BCCI wants to or does not want to remember Tiger’s legacy, it is for them to decide”.

About the Pataudi Trophy

The ‘Pataudi Trophy’ is a prestigious award given to the victor of the Test cricket series between England and India. It celebrates the contributions of Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi to cricket and also pays tribute to his father, Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi. Introduced in 2007, the trophy marks 75 years since the inaugural Test match between the two nations.

When Sharmila commented on Mansoor Ali Khan’s biopic

At the red carpet of Lux Golden Rose Awards, Sharmila Tagore had spoken about the biopic. She had said, “I would like a movie to be made on Mansoor Ali Khan. If someone really directs it properly, and with proper research, I think I would like it. I think his life has got a lot of things, about the accident, about losing his father and playing cricket with such a handicap.” When she was asked to name an actor she would like to see playing Mansoor in his biopic, she said, “I really don’t know. Somebody who looks like Tiger. Maybe Ranbir Kapoor or somebody in the family.”
