Sonu Nigam received the Padma Shri honour on Monday in Delhi, at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The singer received the honour for his contribution to music, over the years. He received the prestigious award from honourable President Ram Nath Kovind. A picture of the singer receiving the honour from the President of India was shared on Twitter. The official Twitter handle of the President of India shared the picture from the event and mentioned Nigam’s achievements.

The singer received the prestigious Padma Shri Award for his contribution to Art. The singer and music director has sung over 6,000 songs in more than 28 languages. At the event, Sonu Nigam wore a white traditional outfit. Previously, the singer had expressed his gratitude as he was to be bestowed upon with the honour. He extended his heartfelt thanks to everyone who selected him and suggested his name. The singer also thanked his mother, Shobha Nigam and his father, Agam Kumar Nigam. He even dedicated the Padma Shri to his mother.

According to a report in the Indian Express, the singer said, “My heartfelt thanks to all those who selected me and suggested my name for this prestigious honour. I would also like to thank my mother, Shobha Nigam, and my father, Agam Kumar Nigam. In fact, I want to dedicate this award to my mother. Had she been here today, she would have cried a lot.

Meanwhile, to date, Nigam has sung songs in Hindi, Kannada, Odia, Bengali, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Nepali, Malayalam, Kannada, Bhojpuri, and other Indian languages. The singer has also won a National Award for a song he sang in the movie Kal Ho Naa Ho.
