Taapsee Pannu has created a niche for herself in the industry with the unique roles that she has portrayed so far. Be it an old woman in her next ‘Saand Ki Aankh’ to a free-spirited girl she played in ‘Manmarziyaan’. Now the actress will be playing a very emotionally challenging role in her next film ‘Thappad’. She will be playing a character named Amrita in this Anubhav Sinha directorial.

Taapsee recently opened up about her character in ‘Thappad’. The actress also revealed why she took up this role. “I’ve consciously chosen characters that challenge the patriarchy,” she told Mumbai Mirror.

The actress spoke about the preparations that she had to do in order to get into the character of Amrita. She shared, “For this one, I had to tone down my firebrand image, look docile which was a bigger challenge than looking old.

Revealing further what her character Amrita is all about, Taapsee said, “I chose to play Amrita, a middle-class girl whose father is a professor and mother a housewife, and who wants to be a good wife but things don’t go as planned and she finds herself questioning her decisions. She makes an impact without ranting.

Taapsee further added said that she had to make sure that the go-getter in her didn’t intervene. Plus, Taapsee felt the issues in ‘Thappad’ are personal and every woman is going to identify with it.
